New horsepower pay homage to old as a group of riders retrace the storied route of the legendary Pony Express riders.

Starting on their seven state tour earlier this week, members of the Harley Owner's Group (H.O.G.) will ride from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, over a 10-day long-distance motorcycle journey.

H.O.G.'s Pony Express Rally retraces the historic route that the original Pony Express riders followed in 1860-61 as they carried mail across the country.

Points of interest include various museums tracing the history of the famous ride and actual Pony Express Station facilities and monuments as well as the opportunity to stand on the actual Pony Express trail in several locations.

Founded in 1983, the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) is the official riding club of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. H.O.G. currently has more than one million members and over 1,400 chapters worldwide, making it the largest factory-sponsored motorcycle organization in the world. H.O.G. rallies are held around the globe to celebrate Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding.
In addition to the tour stops, nearly 500 H.O.G. members from throughout the United States and the world will gather at seven dealer functions along the route as they cover some of the same territory the Pony Express riders rode on horseback nearly 150 years ago.

Special events include a 500–mile riding stint from Salt Lake City to Carson City, Nev., that will be recognized with a unique "500-mile" pin commemorating that segment of the rally.
