California custom motorcycle fabricator turns models into bike builders

Like many in his industry, champion custom motorcycle builder Jim Giuffra of AFT Customs has taken on a group of apprentices to learn his craft and techniques. The two time world metric champion looked no further for the newest generation of bike builders than the models used in different photo shoots for his winning motorcycles.

With his motorcycle line ER Head (pronounced 'air head') helping Jim win sixty national motorcycle shows, he decided to turn to five sexy motorcycle models as his would-be crew of bike-builders to tackle the next custom contest.

The women, who happen to be from the AFT Model Agency, named their creation 'Lowla'. The bike is a new 2009 Honda VXT1300 with a ground up rebuild to Pro Street drag bike specifications. The naked engine features JE Pistons with special modifications including a hidden radiator, hydraulic clutch conversion from cable all topped by a Red/Cream paint job.

While motorcycle manufacturers have long marketed to women and female bike builders have become a familiar sight on the custom motorcycle scene, the move by AFT Customs to turn models into fabricators is a new twist.

Built in four months 'Lowla' made her debut at the 2009 LA Calendar Show held in Long Beach California where it won first place in the metric custom contest.

The custom motorcycle went onto Sturgis where it took seventh place in the world championship held at the legendary rally.

Jim Giuffra, AFT Customs and his bike-building modeling agency are based in Martell, California and surely have the motorcycle world wondering what the next all-female creation will come out of his shop.
