Progressive and bikers help families with hot corn
There are many thing motorcycle enthusiasts are known for. Passion for the open road, the favorite color of black, the joy of performance and satisfaction from a nice set of curves. But the proudest label any rider could wear is that of big-hearted biker and those heading down to the 69th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week will have many opportunities to help those in need.
A unique and certainly fulfilling way will be one that satisfies many needs on different levels. Bikers countrywide can help their communities by chowing down on free corn. For the second year in a row, America’s number one motorcycle insurer is giving away hot roasted corn on the cob at motorcycle rallies across the country and encouraging people to make a small donation to their local food bank.
The program, called “Corn for Kids,” benefits local Feeding America food banks to feed needy children and their families and other charities. Last year bikers fed nearly 170,000 families by eating 46,000 ears of free corn and making donations to local Feeding America food banks.
The 'Corn for Kids' tour will ride into many major motorcycle events this year. Fresh from the International Motorcycle Show in Chicago, the corn gang stops at Daytona and then its onto Scottsdale in April for Arizona Bike Week.
Progressive offers its products, including personal and commercial auto, motorcycle, boat, and recreational vehicle insurance, through more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies throughout the U.S. and online and by phone directly from the Company. It also seems to be enjoying it latest television spokesperson 'Flo' who was seen recently enjoying the open road herself (below). Sort of.
Starting April 15, people can also participate by going to the Corn for Kids page on Progressive's website , with one meal per click being donated to local Feeding America food banks. Organizers hope with combined efforts, Progressive’s goal is to provide 500,000 meals to needy children and their families will be reached.
“Bikers are a charitable bunch,” said Marcy Gray, long-time rider and a motorcycle product manager at Progressive. “Hot, sweet roasted corn is the perfect treat to attract bikers; we are thrilled to see so many partake in the program and hope to increase participation this year.”
