Microsoft and motorcycles, Windows 7 and Ducati join forces
While motorcycles don't leap to mind when you think of Microsoft's new operating system Windows 7, Ducati is hoping to change all that.
One of the features on the latest and critically acclaimed operating software from Microsoft is it's Window's theme experiences. Initially offered to users as a way to customize the computer's screen with themed backgrounds and borders, Microsoft intends to expand the consumer experience even more.
And they have a group of diverse advertisers interested in joining in the experiment.
According to reports Ferrari, Porsche, Twentieth Century Fox and Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati have all agreed to take part in a pilot program that has already begun with Microsoft.

In the Windows Theme Experience pilot, advertisers are going to be able to put their brand on Internet Explorer 8 add-ons; Windows 7 and Windows Vista gadgets; Windows 7 backgrounds and borders and Windows “audio elements.”
Also advertisers will be able to push their brands “throughout the operation of their Windows 7-based PC including backgrounds, slide shows, borders and application audio elements,” through the operating systems Windows Personalization Gallery pilot.
The Ducati theme, along with other performance vehicles such as Porsche and Ferrari are available on Microsoft's Windows 7 download page. Other downloads include the popular video game 'Gears of War', Coca Cola and Microsoft's portable media player, Zune.
The trial is set to run through October 2010.
“These new themes are intended for a brand’s most passionate fans and allow for a deeper engagement by letting consumers embed their favorite brand into their PC experience,” according to Microsoft.
